LECBA Board Meeting
Monday January, 10, 2011
Board members present: Jerry Abele, Ron Eickholt, Mel Fenger, Eric Gahn, Jeff Goehring, Don Lowther, Chris Moore, Pete Scheid, Rick Unger, Barry Witt, Bob Witt
Guests present: Sandee Abele, Steve Connor, John Babroski, Joe Takacs, Bob Tempero, Chris Smith, Jim Maim, Mike Meyer
The meeting was called to order at 6:00 PM at Porky’s Restaurant by President Rick Unger.
North Coast Charter Boat Association members John Babroski (new president) and Joe Takacs were in attendance at the meeting to learn and observe the LECBA meeting to help their organization to grow.
Bob Tempero discussed the annual MS Society Fishing Tournament on June 8, 2011. Tournament will be run as in the past. Members were encouraged to once again participate.
Motion made by Ron Rickholt to accept December minutes. Seconded by Bob Witt. Passed by the Board.
Treasurer’s report by Don Lowther. Motion to accept the report by Steve Connor. Seconded by Jeff Goehring. Passed by the Board.
The LECBA underwent an audit on December 6, 2010 for the Drug Consortium. Sandee Abele will be sending out an email to to current members about the new policies and procedures. Please print the new manual to keep on your boat.
Thank you and Welcome to Eric Gahn the new 1st Vice President. He has taken over the position for Steve Connor.
President Unger said a few words at the annual Port Clinton Walleye Drop on New Years Eve and presented the Captain of the Year award.
Upcoming events:
January 19, 2011: Wildlife Council Meeting in Columbus. President Unger will be attending this meet and greet event.
January 21, 2010: President Unger will attend a follow-up meeting from November in Windsor to set policies.
February 3, 2011: North Coast meeting. Discussion about the TAC and the LECBA runs
February 16, 2011: President Unger will head to Chicago to work on the waterway issue. There are 6 trust funds equaling two million dollars allocated for the program.
February 28- March 2: Rick and Paul Pacholski will travel to Washington
Saturday, March 5, 2011: Captain’s Conference at Firelands Campus in Huron, OH
Still no word on the open lake dumping issue. President Unger will go back to testify again if necessary.
Effective today there is a new director for the Ohio EPA: Scott Nally and David Mustine will replace Sean Logan (ODNR)
A write-up from Roger Knight states that spring fishing will not be shut down on Lake Erie.
Motion made by Pete Scheid to allow a petty cash fund for travel purposes. Seconded by Ron Eickholt. Passed by the Board.
Steve Connor asked about current water levels on Lake Erie for this year. The prediction is lower according to correspondences received by Ron Eickholt.
Jeff Goehring discussed the issuing of Ohio licenses. With the new system, it will take 3 - 5 minutes to print each license. Captains are encouraged to have there crew get a license the night before to avoid any delays. The process should run much smoother in 2012.
Discussion about setting up a table at the upcoming Cleveland Sport Show. President Unger will be unavailable. A committee will be needed if interested. IF the table is free as in the past and there is an issue the LECBA would like to push then we will attend….otherwise no. NCCBA is willing to assist.
No current word on the carp issue.
Next meeting will be held Monday, February 14, 2011 at 6:00 PM at Wild Wings.
