LECBA Board Meeting

Monday, February 8, 2010

 

The meeting was called to order by President Rick Unger at 6:25 PM at the Island House Restaurant.

 

Members present:  Jerry Abele, Steve Connor, Ron Eickholt, Mel Fenger, Don Lowther, Paul Pacholski, Pete Scheid, John Tucholski, and Rick Unger

 

Guests present:  Eric Gahn, Jason Sarver, Bob Tempero, Tony Bernard, and Sandee Abele

 

Treasurer’s Report given by Don Lowther.  Motion to approve report by Steve Connor.  Seconded by Paul Pacholski.  Passed by the Board.

 

Motion made by Paul Pacholski to approve January minutes.  Seconded by Ron Eickholt.  Passed by the Board.

 

Presentation by Bob Tempero and Tony Bernard of the MS Society:

            Annual MS Society Walleye Tournament will be held Wednesday, June 9, 2010.  Boats will leave from Midway Marina as in the past.  A $300 stipend will be paid for participation.  Lunch, drinks and fish cleaning will be provided.   Captain’s meeting will be the night before.  Registration forms are available if interested.

 

President’s Report:

            President Unger received a phone call from the LaFarge Company regarding open lake dumping.  They would like to speak with the Board about a solution.  President Unger will get more details and call Board members with his findings if immediate action is to be taken.

 

The Cleveland Show will be held March 18 -21 at the IX Center.  It is a four day event and a new group is in charge.  The Board would be charged $300 to retain a booth.  Board voted to not attend the show this year.

 

The LECBA will pick up the cost for Paul Pacholski to attend the Captain’s Conference this year as the current Captain of the Year.

 

Sea Grant held at meeting at Bay Village to discuss genetically altering fish.  They do not want to see them put in out lake as test site.  Make sure it is going to work first.

 

LECBA is making every effort to help stop the Asian Carp situation.

 

Paul Pacholski will be attending the Great Lakes Days in Washington DC on February 23-24 with the hopes to meet and greet people that can help us.  President may attend as well.

 

Upcoming dates:

            February 9 or 10: President Unger will meet with The LaFarge Company

            February 27: Amish Sportsman Group meeting.  President Unger will be attending.

            March 3: Wildlife Council Meeting

            March 6:  Captain’s Conference

            March 8:  LECBA Meeting at the Island House Restaurant

 

President Unger would like to get a committee together to work on getting more membership from local businesses.  Cost for a Business to be a member is $60 a year.

 

Ron Eickholt:

Discussion about a proposal that is currently in the state of Alaska that would limit them to having 100 charter captains within the state.

License Renewal:  some captains are having troubles renewing due to medical conditions.  Some are receiving licenses that are good only for one year.  Who do we talk to to address this issue?

 

We will be able to sell one day-same day Canadian fishing licenses in Ohio for the upcoming season.  A distributor for the licenses is needed.  Licenses would be purchased in bulk, with Canada buying back any unused licenses.  Licenses will be available online in 2011.
