Past LECBA President Bart Blaha recently passed away. A $100 donation to his charity was made in his honor.

Canadian Border Crossing Issue:

President Unger has spoke with many people.  He has had issues with the “go fast guys” in the past.  If you have any encounters with them, please be polite, don’t stir trouble and contact Rick.  Please get persons name or know the color of their uniform and President Unger will handle it.

Canadian Fishing Licenses:

Starting on June 17, the marina at Scutter’s will sell fishing licenses.  Open seven days a week.

President Unger is still working on a one-day/same day online fishing license. Trying to make it for purchase here on the US side.

President Unger spoke with Roger Knight about the wind power issue and the rush to get them on the Great Lakes.  ODNR can do nothing about it.  There are still many issues to consider: trenching to run line, problem for birds, who will maintain, etc.

Cleveland Sportsman Show has changed hands and will be run by a group from PA.  It will be a three or four day show.  Not sure if the LECBA will be invited in.  President Unger will keep the Board posted on the situation.

Commercial Fishing limits will be back on the western basin for next year

Bob Haynor is still working on a five-year business plan.

MS Society Fishing Tournament is Wednesday, June 10, 2009.  Captain’s meeting to be held Tuesday evening at Midway Marina.

President Unger will call to reconfirm Canadian Fishing licensing issues.

President Unger recently purchased a computer monitor for $129.  It belongs to the LECBA.

Marc Hudson from the Western Basin Sport Fishing Organization stated that his group is in agreement with the issues that the LECBA is working on.  He invited all to a fish fry at Cranberry Creek.

Ron Eickholt mentioned that the Bayshore Power Plant issue needs to be pushed.  Discussion of spring netters was presented.  President Unger will speak with ODNR.

Pete Scheid gave a “pat on the back” to Rick Unger for all the work he does/has done for LECBA and the fishing industry.

Ron Eickholt mentioned that Canadian net boats have been seen in US waters.  Rick would like the GPS numbers so he can make some phone calls about the situation.

Next meeting will be held at The Pond on Monday, July 13, 2009.

Motion to adjourn made by Ron Eickholt. Seconded by Dan Welsh at 7:20 PM.
