Board Minutes

Meeting was held at the Angry Trout Restaurant.
President Rick Unger called the meeting to order at 6:35pm.

Members present: Bob Collins, Jerry Abele, Steve Conner, Ron Eicholt, Mel Fenger, Jeff Goehring, Mike Karhoff, Don Lowther, Paul Pacholski, Pete Scheid, Barry Witt, Bob Witt, Dan Welsh, Rick Unger.

Members absent: Charley Eulitt, Mike Matta and Dave Whitt

Guests present: Bob Tempero, Tony Bernard, Russ Merrihew, Roger Knight, Eric Gahn, Ted Welsh, Chris Moore, Sandee Abele.

Presentation by Bob Tempero from the MS Society
MS Fishing Tournament to be held Wednesday, June 11, 2008. They are asking for Captain participation for this charity event. Captains would receive a $300 stipend for the day. All bait, ice, fish cleaning, breakfast, lunch and dinner are provided. See registration form for more information.

President Unger is trying to contact Marcy Kaptur to attend a meeting to discuss border patrol/crossing issues. Will report back with findings next meeting.

A meeting with the new Mayor of Port Clinton (Debbie Hymore Tester) is in the works to keep the relationship between the LECBA and Port Clinton ongoing.

President Unger mentioned that he would like to get together with the president’s and vice presidents of other charter captain organizations to work together on concerns and issues facing the organizations today.

Bob Collins and Rick Unger attended the Homeland Security meeting in Cleveland. They want to continue with a working relationship with them. They are currently trying to consolidate communications so we can get specific answers.

Julie from the Angry Trout thanked the LECBA for their support. The restaurant will be offering a “cook your catch” this summer. Also if you dine with your charter group, the captain will receive a $20 gift certificate for use at another time.

Presentation by Roger Knight of ODNR
Roger discussed the upcoming proposals for yellow perch. A change in the perch limits will affect the western basin. Any changes that may occur would go into effect July 1, 2008. No changes in walleye limits. LECBA will support the fisheries proposals.

Paul Pacholski made mention that you can voice your opinion about Canadian licenses online. They are asking for suggestions on how to make the site better. www.ontariomnr.com

Ron Eicholt shared some articles he had read while in Alaska. Noting that they are dealing with the same type of Commercial fishing issues there that we are currently dealing with in Ohio.

Sandee Abele has taken over the LECBA Drug Program. Thank you Sandee.

Upcoming Events:

February 23, 2008: Amish Sportsman Breakfast in Mount Hope. Open to all, Bob Collins and Rick Unger will be attending.

March 1, 2008: Captain’s Conference with Ohio Sea Grant. Members are encouraged to attend.

March 10, 2008: next meeting to be held at the Windjammer Restaurant.

March 12 –16, 2008:Cleveland Sport Show. Members are encouraged to help with manning the LECBA booth at the show, let Rick Unger (216) 401-6231 know if you can help.

Joe Thomas of the Cleveland Browns will be working the booth Friday, Saturday and Sunday with a portion of poster sales benefiting LECBA Kid’s programs.
